3 Steps to Building Your Database

In the past a website was just a necessary form of advertising which gave information about the business and products or services. That has all changed and in order to survive in this economy you need every aspect of your business getting maximum results. Every business needs a website that works with minimal effort while obtaining maximum results. A website is not just an information site it should also be an active part of your marketing and client follow up process.

Here are 3 Simple Steps to Building Your Database online:

• When a current or prospective client visits your website do you have the systems in place to capture information? A very simple tool is a sign up box asking for their email address and name in exchange for something that you could give to them. If you are a dry cleaner offer a free coupon, author offer a free chapter download of your book, the offers and opportunities are endless. Get creative... the more creative you are the higher the response rate will be. When you are creating the sign up box make sure you are linking that box to your Email Newsletter System, and creating autoresponders to follow up automatically.

• Survey your web visitors. Ask for their feedback on your products or services, and use that information to make your business better. Many time surveys are done and the data is not looked at or used. Use the information, and if someone writes you a great testimonial use that on your site as well. Don't forget to collect the email address from the survey participants so that you can send them an email with a thank you.

• Use social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. Using social media sites correctly will drive traffic to your website. Remember that you are using these as a business tool so keep the topics to business, and a little bit of personal information. Going overboard on the personal information may turn many away, and don't begin to market your business to your followers on social media sites until you have built a relationship with them. Social Media is about relationship building.

Don't forget to build your database offline as well. If you are a brick and mortar store collect contact information at the register, when you are out at networking events and collecting email addresses - ask them if you can add them to your mailing list. Don't just assume that you can add someone to your list, always ask first.

Begin today and put systems in place to build your database, and use that database to market and nurture your business.
